When it comes to children’s fashion, Katie Miller is far from the typical southern mom. Her shop, rOw^10, is stocked with items unlike anything else in shops around town — a departure from the typical southern take on infant and children’s fashion.
“We are a store for the modern baby,” she says. “You won’t find any traditional smocked or ruffled dresses, john- johns or big bows here.”
Katie, who also owns Arco Avenue, says she was inspired to open rOw^10 when it came time to dress her own children.
“I wasn’t into the smocked, southern look, but there weren’t any other options locally besides lower quality clothing at chain stores,” she explains.
At rOw^10, Katie and her team are doing more than offering fashionable clothing for hip infants.
“We focus on organic, well-made, modern clothing and accessories for both boys and girls from newborn to 4 years,” says Katie.
Although Katie is aware that rOw^10’s unique style may not necessarily appeal to all parents in the South, she encourages people to stop by and visit her shop.
“Even if it’s not your overall style, we still have items that mix in well with the more traditional style, so you can still find something you love,” she says.
As a mother herself, Katie has high standards when it comes to the items in her shop.
“I don’t buy anything I wouldn’t put my own child in, so everything is carefully selected. We definitely have our key brands, but we add new lines every season. I want to bring in brands and items that are completely new for our area, so our customers have fresh, unique selections to choose from.”
Best-selling items at rOw^10 include the bandana bibs and the paci clips, which Miller says are a “no-brainer purchase” that customers enjoy, and which make a great gift for baby showers. Other items that they stock are options for new moms.
“We have a line of chic diaper bags that fly out because they are very affordable and look like a nice purse or tote,” Katie says. “Our own line of organic terry hooded towels are probably our best-selling gift item. They are designed to fit from a newborn to a toddler, and work great for bath time, pool or beach.”
Other popular items include the Bible verse swaddle blankets, which function as a swaddle for a newborn, a play mat for an infant and a lightweight blanket for a toddler. In the future, Katie hopes to see rOw^10 open more locations.
“There is a void of our style of store in the Southeast, so we would love to expand,” she says. “Arco Avenue and rOw^10 seem to play well off of each other when moms are shopping. Mom or grandmother can come in and get a cute pair of shoes or a handbag [at Arco Avenue], and then head next door to purchase something just as fashionable for their little one.”
