We finish out our taco trail this week with two Fondren favorites competing for our hearts (and stomachs). If we didn’t cover your favorite taco joint, shoot us a message! We’d love to taco ‘bout it!

Chicken tacos usually inspire monumental indifference, but the pollo taco at Babalu is a real eye-opener. Okay, it's fried chicken, so that definitely is a swerve. Then they top it with arugula, pickled onions and a buttermilk avocado dressing. Maybe I had simply had too many steak and pork tacos before I got to Babalu, but I wanted to crawl into that comfort food-stuffed tortilla and nap. Again, because of the glut of tacos I had ingested in only a few days, I flanked the pollo with a redfish taco and a fried shrimp taco. They're small and perfectly designed to accompany a cocktail. The tacos balance a South-of-the-Border sensibility with Southern flavors resulting in a dang fine bite. If you want to keep things light, try the chopped salad or the ceviche. Sit outside on the patio and sip a sangria or cocktail.
Pig and Pint
3139 North State Street
Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Type: BBQ Sampler (pulled pork, smoked chicken, brisket)
Pig and Pint isn't a taco shop. Pig and Pint is a BBQ joint, but that didn’t stop Buzzfeed from naming it the "Top Taco Spot in Mississippi." The pulled pork taco and fried green tomato taco are just two of the tempting creations you’ll find on the menu. These tacos are big, and there's something about the way the sweet tangy mango-jicama slaw balances the rich smokiness of the meat that keep me coming back. Always order the banana foster pudding. The patio is a great place to sit anytime, but it's especially perfect this time of year. Oh, and try a bunch of beers that you won't find anywhere else in town (I like the sour selections). Can't take the heresy of a BBQ taco? Try the Pepsi cola glazed ribs or the fried bologna sandwich. Did I mention the banana pudding?
