Along with the cooler temps, the Sanderson Farms Championship comes to Jackson each October. The Sanderson Farms Championship is an annual stop on the PGA TOUR and is presented by Century Club Charities, Inc. Century Club Charities' mission is promoting the game of golf for the benefit of local charities. Since 1986, Century Club Charities has generated more than $8 million for local charities. Last year alone, $1.1 million was donated to our designated charity, Friends of Children’s Hospital. The week-long event hosts events such as a women's luncheon, Junior Pro-Am Tournament and general tee times for spectators. This year, we talked with the volunteer coordinator, Kacie Towles, and learned how the event takes shape and turns into a great event for the whole family.
What is your role as volunteer coordinator for this event?
I work year-round with our staff of six on the tournament. Pretty much anything that handles volunteers, I oversee: schedules, committees, uniforms, lunches, parking, etc.
How many people would you say are a part of putting this event on?
I have over 900 volunteers that dedicate time to volunteer throughout the week of the tournament.
Who are some of the sponsors this year?
Our Title Sponsor is Sanderson Farms. But some of our other sponsors include John Soules Food, Allen Exploration, Bank Plus, Trustmark, Brown Bottling Company, International Paper, Corona Premier and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi.
What does a hole host/captain do?
Our Hole Captains are basically the leader of each Hole/Group. They help some with scheduling of volunteers, leading them on the course during the week and instruct them on what they need to do.
What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part of the job is definitely getting to see the whole week come together. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to put on a PGA Tour golf tournament and I have the best staff to work with. Seeing everything come together that we’ve worked all year on is extremely gratifying.
